Job Description:

The Workplace Support Specialist promotes a safe, high-quality, and growth-focused work environment at Radius Community Health & Healing. This integrated role encompasses Occupational Health and Safety nursing, accreditation compliance, staff education and training, and coordination of students and volunteers.

 

Working closely with leadership and interdisciplinary teams, the Specialist supports staff development, workplace wellness, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality improvement. The role ensures that training, safety practices, and accreditation activities meet all requirements while supporting the well-being of staff and volunteers and reflecting the mission, vision, and values of Radius.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Education & Training

  • Identify, organize and evaluate education and training programs across all departments, including mandatory orientation, professional development, and ongoing skills enhancement.
  • Identify ongoing learning needs in collaboration with the management teams to support clinical and administrative growth.
  • Maintain and update organizational training materials, competency checklists, and learning management systems.
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and guidance to staff at all levels to enhance clinical and professional competencies.
  • Ensure training aligns with evidence-informed practices, organizational goals, and regulatory requirements.

Occupations Health & Safety (OHS)

  • Serve as primary OHS contact and nurse for staff.
  • Lead and coordinate health, safety, and wellness initiatives, ensuring compliance with OHS legislation and internal policies.
  • Conduct workplace assessments, incident reports, and collaborate with management to implement corrective actions in a timely manner.
  • Provide health education and guidance related to workplace wellness, infection control, immunizations, and injury prevention.
  • Maintain accurate OHS documentation and participate in OHS Committee activities.

Accreditation & Quality Assurance

  • Oversee the preparation, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of accreditation requirements in alignment with Canadian Accreditation Council.
  • Collaborate with leadership and program managers to ensure policies, procedures, and practices reflect accreditation and quality standards.
  • Track and report progress on accreditation activities, audit findings, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, and accountability though ongoing monitoring and staff engagement.

Student & Volunteer Coordination

  • Coordinate student and volunteer engagement, recruitment, onboarding, and recognition of volunteer initiatives.
  • Ensure students and volunteers receive appropriate orientation, training, and supervision.
  • Maintain student and volunteer records, schedules, and communication systems.
  • Collaborate with program leads to identify volunteer needs and opportunities that enhance service delivery.
  • Promote volunteer appreciation and recognition initiatives that reflect the values of Radius.

Qualifications:

 

Education and Licensure:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN), or a related health discipline required.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) designation or equivalent professional designation and active licensure with the appropriate regulatory body.
  • Certification in relevant areas (e.g., Community Health Nursing, Trauma-Informed Care, Leadership in Education) is preferred.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a clinical, educational, or leadership role within a multidisciplinary healthcare setting.
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations, including vulnerable, marginalized, and underserved communities, is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (e.g., Connect Care, Netcare, Meditech) and health database systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with accreditation processes (Canadian Accreditation Council) and quality improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) principles, workplace wellness, and infection prevention.
  • Public Health or community-based nursing experience is an asset.

  • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities, using evidence-informed approaches.
  • Commitment to health, safety, wellness, and continuous quality improvement.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant digital systems.
  • Strong organizational awareness, with the ability to navigate complex systems and relationships.
